About Panasonic

In April 2001 the EC Directive 1999/5/EC on Radio Equipment & Telecommunication Terminal Equipment (R&TTE) and the mutual recognition of their conformity came into force.

This directive is valid, e.g. for radio equipment, mobiles, satellite radio equipment as well as for all terminal equipment of the telephone network, such as telephone apparatus, facsimile apparatus, modems and telephone answering machines. By the R&TTE directive the placing on the European Market for the concerned products is basically newly regulated.

A prior regime of necessary national approvals of each European Member State are now covered by a regime of manufacturers declarations.

The requirements
The requirements to the apparatus and systems are now reduced and specified in 'Essential Requirements'. These abstract requirements are:

  • Protection of health and safety of the user and any other person
  • Compliance with the electrical safety requirements
  • Compliance with the protective requirements concerning electromagnetic compatibility
  • To ensure the effective use of the radio spectrum and to avoid harmful interference

The radio frequencies are allocated nationally and if they have not been harmonised, they remain within the exclusive competence of the Member States. A national frequency notification is necessary.

The manufacturer and / or importer declares the compliance with the essential requirements and receives all possibilities and freedom to marketing the products on EC market under his sole responsibility.

Panasonic Testing Centre is ready for supporting, testing and guidance for compliance with R&TTE Directive:

  • Consultation on general R&TTE concerns, conformity assessment procedures and standards
  • Testing EMC compliance in accredited laboratory (EMIL)
  • Consultation and application on necessary testing and certification
  • Supporting on notifications and registrations and preparation of necessary documentation
